Recombinant DNA Technology
• Allows DNA fragments to be inserted into a nucleic acid vector that can replicate autonomously within microorganisms.
Usage of Recombinant DNA technology:
• Carrier detection, prenatal diagnosis of genetic diseases, gene therapy, and production of a specific protein, eg., insulin.
• Chromosomes are cut with restriction endonucleases to produce restriction fragments.
• Restriction endonucleases (eg., EcoRI, HaeIII) cut dsDNA at palindromes.
