Principles and Functions of Indian Trade Unions
Principles of Trade Unions:
1. Unity is Strength.
2. Equal pay for equal work for the same type of work.
3. Security of service.
Other than this, trade unions provide workers with:
1. Job security.
2. Influence over industrial management.
3. Communication with the management.
4. Job benefits.
5. Unity among coworkers.
6. Job satisfaction.
Functions of Trade Unions:
Trade unions fulfill a variety of functions, and these functions are different in different countries. The main functions, however, can be summarized as:
Protective functions for the labour class:
These functions are established for the betterment of labour working conditions and job security by supporting workers' strikes in an event of failure of collective bargaining.
Fraternal, ministrant, or positive functions:
This is basically economic support during a strike or period of unemployment.
