Definition of Cauda Equina Syndrome:

Cauda equina syndrome is a serious disorder of the spinal nerve roots. It results from any disorder which compresses the nerves of the cauda equine. It can be caused by trauma, lumbar disk disease, malignancy, and abscesses.

Findings in Cauda Equina Syndrome:

Symptoms of cauda equine syndrome include low back pain, bowel and better dysfunction, saddle anesthesia, sciatica, and lower extremity sensory and motor loss.
