What is Preventive Maintenance?

Preventive maintenance is based on the idea of 'prevention is better than cure.' For example, in a factory, this process may involve shutting down all the manufacturing processes in order to service, lubricate, and realign the machines involved. It follows the theory that regular maintenance of machines is better than repairing a machine after it has completely broken down.
