What are Late Decelerations of Fetal Heart Rate?

• These are gradual decreases in fetal heart rate below the baseline with onset to nadir ≥ 30 seconds.

• Deceleration onset and end is delayed in relation to contractions.

• Mediated by either vagal stimulation or myocardial depression.

• Occur in response to uteroplacental insufficiency.

• Always non-reassuring and associated with fetal acidosis.
