What is a colloid cyst?

This is a cyst found in the 3rd ventricle and increases intracranial pressure. Findings include nausea, vomiting, headache. There is presense of mucin-producing ciliated cells similar to respiratory epithelium.

What other malignancies originate in the 3rd ventricle?

Craniopharyngioma, cysticercus cyst (T. solium infection), echinococcus cyst (Echinococcus granulosus), and pilocytic astrocytoma.

What cells are increased in CML?

Neutrophils and metamyelocytes.

What cells are increased in CLL?

Lymphocytes.

What cells are decreased in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)?

Bone-marrow cells: Red, white cells, and platelets (pancytopenia).

What nerve is used in hip abduction?

Superior gluteal nerve.

What are allotypes?

These are genetic markers found on different immunoglobulin molecules. Children have the same allotypes as their parents.

What are idiotypes?

Idiotypes are produced in response to specific antigens.

What are isotypes?

Isotypes of immunoglobulin are the five major classes of immunoglobulin: IgA, IgG, IgM, IgD, and IgD.

How does Strep. Pyogenes produce extra virulence?

Lysogenic conversion: temperate phage DNA is inserted into the bacterial chromosome and it becomes a prophage.
